    The Schilthorn is 2,970 meters high and is therefore the highest peak in the Bernese Prealps, with breathtaking views included. A moderate and a difficult path lead to the summit from two sides. There is a revolving restaurant and a mountain station here, and several cable cars in succession lead from Stechelberg to the summit (journeys every 30 minutes from Stechelberg, from 7:55 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.).

    In 1969, parts of the James Bond film “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” were filmed here, with local mountain guides and ski instructors acting as stuntmen. The last part of the cable car had not been completed by then for financial reasons. The production company “Eon Productions” saw the peak as the “Piz Gloria” from Ian Fleming's novel and financed the completion of the cable car. In return, they were allowed to choose the interior of the summit restaurant and the color of the gondolas.

        Schilthorn - Pia Gloria is of course worth a visit. If only for the magnificent view and the memories of the 007 classic that was filmed here. Despite other forecasts, I had no view of the big three (Jungfrau, Eiger, Mönch) today. At least not from the Schilthorn. Instead, I walked along an exciting ridge towards the geocaches and had the weather divide right in front of me. A fantastic spectacle. Thick fog over the Schilthorn peak and the side facing the Kiental was blessed with picture-perfect weather. Particularly recommended: the Chilchiflue hills. There is a beautiful cache there and the view is fantastic. This mountain path should definitely be avoided in fog. It is too steep everywhere and from the Chilchflue in particular the summit ends abruptly, straight down without transition, just after the large cairn.
