The Ägelsee, also called Egelsee, is located near the village of Niederwil in the municipality of Gachnang in the canton of Thurgau. The lake is 405 meters above sea level. The lake is located directly on the motorway (N7) that leads from Winterthur to Frauenfeld.

The Ägelsee, the UNESCO World Heritage:
The Ägelsee is known for its prehistoric pile dwellings, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. As a sewage treatment plant at the nearby sugar factory, the Ägelsee is filled with the factory's fall water in autumn, and this water is drained off in spring. Due to the low oxygen content in the water, neither plants grow nor fish can live in them.

Bird watching at the Ägelsee:
The Ägelsee is a popular destination for bird lovers, as migratory birds often pass this small lake. There is also an observation stand on the lake.
