The mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress was built at the beginning of the 19th century under Prussian leadership on the foundations of a previous building that had been blown up. Due to its proximity to France, Koblenz was to be specially secured and all shipping traffic on the Rhine and Moselle was monitored from the fortress.

Soldiers were stationed at the fortress until 1918, after which it became the property of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the fortress there is now a museum, various restaurants and a youth hostel. The freely accessible parade ground was also redesigned for the 2011 Federal Horticultural Show.

There are always great events at the fortress. With the cable car at the Deutsches Eck it is easy and beautiful to get to the fortress. The view from the top on Koblenz is uniquely beautiful.
