The Wattentaler Lizum (popularly also called the Wattener Lizum) denotes the eastern end of the valley of the Wattental, which branches off from the Lower Inn Valley at Wattens. The word Lizum is closely related to alpine pastures and so there are several alpine pastures in Lizum in Watten.

The etymological variation or emergence of the name is as follows: Lizum ---> lizun ---> lozone ---> lozza ---> [lutum, Latin excrement]. The original word "lozza" comes from the Romanesque and means "spotty ground or pasture", which in turn indicates that these areas were used as alpine pastures very early. Under the Bavarian settlement, the name changed to 'lizun', later it became the current name "Lizum". (Prof. Dr. Anreiter, University of Innsbruck)
