The Schneeberg is located in the Aachen hill country between the hamlets of Lemiers, Vaals and Seffent. One of the explanations for the name is provided by the geological structure of the Schneeberg, which consists predominantly of Upper Cretaceous chalk, limestone and marl stones, which are typical for the area between Aachen and Maastricht (see Mergelen Heuvelland).
At Schneeberg you can still find remains of the Aachen Landgraben, part of the West Wall, a defensive line from the Second World War. As you drive up, you can see the concrete remains of this defensive structure over a length of 450 meters on the left. Other relics of the war can be found in many places here if you look for them.
