The Alpstein is a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps.
The Alpstein is located in eastern Switzerland. It is a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps and belongs to the cantons of Appenzell Innerrhoden, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, and St. Gallen. The three cantons meet at the highest peak of the Alpstein, the Säntis. If you take the cable car up to the Säntis, you board it in Ausserrhoden; if you sit in a restaurant at the summit, you are in St. Gallen. And if you take a detour to the Alter Säntis restaurant, a few meters below the summit, you are in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden.
