Along the Datteln-Hamm canal there is - just like on the other canals in the Ruhr area - a whole series of ports, stopping points and hiking rest areas for sports boat drivers, one of the largest of which is the Marina Rünthe. There are also numerous anglers who spend their free time on the Datteln-Hamm Canal. In summer, many use the canal for swimming.
        The DHK can also be fished. The Landesfischereiverband Westfalen und Lippe e.V. is responsible for the management and care of the fish stocks.[4]
        The waterway plays a religious role for the Hindus of the nearby Sri Kamadchi Ampal Temple in Hamm. The canal is used by the priests for washing and blessing during the water ceremony at the end of the temple festival.[5]
