A special feature of our Alb plateau are the two constantly flowing sources of Saumahd and Käsbrunnen in the "Osterholz".

The flat knoll here reaches a height of 635 m and the subsoil of the White Jura is formed like a dome by aquiferous layers of clay and gravel. A layer of clay prevents further seepage into the Kars water table.

The catchment area of the springs is only about 0.3 square kilometers and the water seeps away extremely slowly, which explains the good quality of the water.

Forstmeister Kastler from Heidenheim had the source of the cheese fountain redesigned in 1953 and the fountain made of natural stone.

In 1999 our country was hit by the hurricane "Lothar" and 90% of the forest in the "Osterholz" was destroyed.

In 2002, a team from the Swabian Alb Association of the local groups Heidenheim and Oggenhausen-Staaufen created the current state and created a small biotope downstream.
