      This is one of over 300 knight's stones of the Palatinate Forest Association.
      At the point where the Ritterstein stands today, “there was once a shelter, a cattle trough and an artificial wallow. The cattle trough and the wallow were fed with water from the nearby mountain spring. The shepherds at that time built a ring-shaped dam and dug up the earth within the dam. A small pond was created that served as a cattle trough. [...] The mountain spring, which once supplied the cattle trough and the wallow with water, was later turned into a well by the forestry office. The water flows through a wooden pipe embedded in the solid sandstone wall. The water flow is usually low, but despite the altitude there is a constant flow of water. The well water seeps into the Dammberg and presumably feeds an underground basin, which in turn fills the hunger well located down in the valley.”

        The dam well is a source in the Stiftswald Kaiserslautern above the Kleiner Dammtal.
