Konzentrationslager Stutthof (Zivilgefangenenlager Stutthof, Sonderlager Stutthof, Arbeitserziehungslager Stutthof [1]) - German Nazi concentration camp established in the annexed areas of the Free City of Gdańsk (German Freie Stadt Danzig), in Sztutowo, 36 km from Gdańsk. It functioned from September 2, 1939 to May 9, 1945. It operated for a total of 2077 days [2].

Stutthof was the first and the longest existing camp of this type in the areas currently included in Poland. During that time, about 110,000 prisoners from 28 countries passed through the camp. The Jews constituted the most numerous ethnic group among them. On the other hand, the largest state groups were, in turn, Poles, citizens of the Soviet Union, Hungarians and Germans. It is estimated that nearly 65,000 prisoners died as a result of disease, hard work, physical abuse and malnutrition [3].

In the Reichsgau Danzig-Westpreußen Reich District, the Stutthof camp was one of the main instruments for mass extermination of the population. In June 1944 it was included in the implementation of The Final Solution of the Jewish Question (Endlösung), so it took on the character of a mass extermination camp. The "director" of the camp recalled that "the only way to freedom is in the crematorium". The prisoners suffered from hunger and epidemics raged in the barracks, often resulting in the death of over several hundred people.
