The Gothic hall church has towered over the roofs of the city for over 800 years.
The parish church was built around 1188 as a cruciform Romanesque field stone basilica by Count Heinrich I von Osterburg. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city.
From the 13th to the 15th century it was converted into a three-aisled Gothic hall church. After the town fire in 1761, the destroyed Gothic spire was replaced by a baroque dome.
Inside the church there is a bricked block altar and a pulpit from the 16th century. The cup-shaped bronze baptism and the classical bookwood organ are also worth seeing.
