In the 19th century, Hamburg industrialists and bankers were increasingly drawn to the Schleswig-Holstein goods. They were built here around 1900, like villas, which were hardly related to the original purpose of the manor house as the center of an agricultural enterprise. So Conrad Hinrich I. Donner (1774-1854) had a classicist villa built on the site of his newly acquired property from 1830. As an architect, he chose Johann Matthias Hansen (1781-1850), nephew of the famous Danish architect Christian Frederik Hansen, who worked in Hamburg. Conrad Hinrich II von Donner, grandson of the builder, was raised to the Prussian nobility in 1873 and had the manor house from 1898-1902 expanded by Altona architect Albert Petersen to an imposing neoclassical building.

Bredeneek Castle has retained its traditional character to this day.
The rooms have barely changed in their overall appearance.
The castle is filled with memories and testimonies from the turn of the century around 1900.
In 1830, the Hamburg merchant Conrad Hinrich Donner laid the foundation for Bredeneek's glorious era with his manor house. His grandson, married to Bodild Countess Holstein-Holsteinborg, expanded the property to its present form between 1898 and 1902.

Due to the attractive neoclassical architecture, the name "Bredeneek Castle" soon became established, and has been retained to this day. The associated stud farm housed 400 horses, and 50 servants worked on the property.

After 100 years of eventful history, one of the most beautiful properties of its kind in Schleswig-Holstein was saved from decay at the last minute.

Since November 2004, the castle has been owned by the Paustian couple from Hamburg. The castle has been largely renovated.
