The vineyard chapel is an ecumenical church in the Kirchberg vineyard high above Heidingsfeld.
The chapel is dedicated to Saint Urban, Bishop of Langres. According to tradition, Urban hid from his pursuers behind a vine. In honor of the wine saint Urban, prayer processions are often held in wine regions on his memorial day. In Franconia, his statue is doused with wine when the sun shines and with water when it rains. Patronage is on January 23rd.
An old vineyard chapel had existed on the same spot since 1699, but fell into disrepair during the Second World War. In 1984, the Würzburg-Heidingsfeld winegrowers' association from 1859 e.V. decided to build a new wooden vineyard chapel on the occasion of the 125th anniversary. The winegrowers invested 2,800 hours of voluntary work in their chapel, so that the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on July 19, 1985. The new chapel was ecumenically consecrated on September 13, 1986 by Vicar General Heribert Brander, parish priest Karl-Anton Kornes of St. Laurentius and pastor Wilhelm Rüdel of St. Paul. The financial resources for this were obtained, among other things, from the proceeds from the Werkingstrasse wine festival.
Today's chapel with a deep-drawn roof and an open anteroom with a round arch based on the old chapel came from the plans of the Heidingsfeld architect Hubert Lang. The wrought-iron lattice at the end of the chancel was made by blacksmith Günther Barcatta. The altarpiece "Holy Family" was created by the Heidingsfeld sculptor Ossi Müller.
