The bastion on the street of the same name was added to the old city fortifications around 1644 in the manner of the later so-called Vauban fastening system. The old hexagonal layout of the bastion is still recognizable. Today, the area of the former bastion with lime trees is overgrown and invites you to linger.
The city wall was secured by bastions. These are systems that protrude from the line of a fortress wall. In the course of the city wall there were several bastions, you could always see from one to the next. In this way, the space immediately in front of the wall, which the defenders could not see from the parapet, could be observed from the side and possibly reached with weapons.lustauflueneburg.de/stadtwall/#gsc.tab=0
