The view of the Eckertalsperre is great and when then the downhill down to the Rangerhütte Scharfenstein with up to 20 percent gradient follows - perfect! But beware: hikers and dangerous cross grooves are to be considered!

The Eckertalsperre (rarely called Eckerstausee) is a dam near Bad Harzburg in the Harz, which was put into operation in 1943 and dammed the Ecker and their tributaries. The plant operated by the Harzwasserwerke serves the drinking water supply, the flood protection, the low water increase and the energy production.

From Hirtenstieg you have a fantastic view of the country and the Eckertalsperre, weather permitting.

Concrete slab path up to the Brocken, ideally accessible on foot or by bike.
