The Grugatrasse, a former railway line, extends from Mülheim-Heißen to Essen-Steele Süd station. The route is about halfway slightly uphill, but also presents no major problems for the inexperienced cyclist. On the way you can visit the Grugapark, which is located directly on the bike path. Bicycle parking spaces are available at the entrance.

Connections: In Mülheim you get over a short stretch of road connection to the bike path Rheinische Bahn direction Essen-Zentrum. The part towards Duisburg is still under construction / in planning. At kilometer eight of Grugatrasse there is a turnoff towards Baldeneysee. At the end, in Essen-Steele, Grugatrasse merges into the cycle path Veltenbahn. This short piece ends in Essen-Freisenbruch.

the description is true except for the last two sentences. In the amount of the finca ends the Grugatrasse and turns into the Ruhrtalradweg. At the height of the Ruhrstop you should use the left side and follow the left path behind the bridge. After a few meters signposted zigzag you are then in front of the S-Bahn station Essen-Steele Ost. There begins the former Veltenbahn, which is called since short mountain route. If you follow the signs you get to the Kray-Wanner-route or Zollvereintrasse. From there you can cycle either direction Zollverein or Erzbahn

Very nice bike path but not necessarily suitable for road cyclists with road tires due to the gravel road

When the lights are on in the Grugapark again in March, you should drive there

The bike path is easy to drive. Even in summer it is always cool and shady thanks to the many trees.
