If you drive along the river, a ferry is a great way to take a break! There are not many of them at the Ruhr, this one is a highlight. It drives (in the summer) by electric drive and costs what you are worth. Not far from the pier is the castle ruins Hardenstein located, a detour is worth it! Incidentally, here you are in the Muttental, one of the Ruhr's early coal mining areas.

Cross the nearby Nachtigall bridge to continue along the Ruhr Bike Trail if the pay-what-you-like bike ferry boat is not running (it runs March -December 10am to 6pm, longer in summer, September it runs 9am -9pm), see picture for schedule, or check RuhrtalFaehre.de

Even as a wanderer one comes here from its costs. One could e.g. to the Kemnader lake or the Kemnade moated castle. Greetings Manni

A little break from cycling! Against a voluntary donation you can easily change the Ruhr side here. Outside the ferry there are about 2km direction Witten a bicycle bridge.

For me the ferry is part of every cycle tour in the area. Just as a matter of course, I throw something in the cash.
The crew is always nice and friendly!

The few minutes drive over the Ruhr are nice to relax.
(but then some often cause as much stress as passengers after landing)
