Fantastic rest area with possibility for swimming

The Raßnitzer lake originated from a residual hole of the open pit mine. Where once brown coal was mined, today is a beautiful lake, on the banks of which nature is spreading more and more. Since this year, swimming at the lake is now also allowed. Buoys and signage will probably be installed in winter for the 2019 swimming season.

The Raßnitzer See is east of the Wallendorfer See, both lakes are between Merseburg and Leipzig. On the northern side you can reach it via Luppedamm and Elsterradweg. From there you can reach the lookout tower, where you have a view of large parts of the lake. At Raßnitz there is a natural beach where locals go swimming in summer.
On the southern side there are small romantic bays where swimming is also possible. If you are cycling around the Raßnitzer See, it is best to circle the Wallendorfer See. On the southern side of Lake Wallendorfer you have access to the village of Wallendorf, where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks at the wine cellar or cyclist meeting.

The lake was created from an open pit, which was set in 1991. A very beautiful nature experience, which can best be experienced by a 15 m high observation tower. The circumnavigation is easily possible for me with the bicycle.

From the lookout tower you have a great view of Lake Raßnitzer. If you take the path from there in a westerly direction, you can circle the lake or you can access the Wallendorfer See.

The area (open pit renaturation) is getting more and more beautiful with the years! The trees are growing. Most are not many people on the road.

Raßnitzer lake is easily accessible for the Naherhplung. From Leipzig directly over the Elsterradweg you are there relatively quickly. A lot has happened on the lake in recent years. Infrastructure came to it and you can climb the observation tower.

Nice view of the lake. Unfortunately only limited shade. If you want to cool your feet a little, the rest area is very well suited.

Nice path along the lake, but beware , this is more a ride through land than on a path !
