The Genkeltalsperre is a pure drinking water dam and is located in the urban areas of Gummersbach and Meinerzhagen. It is primarily fed by the rivers Genkel and Grotmicke. The mean annual precipitation in the catchment area is 1,320 millimeters, which ensures an annual inflow of around ten million cubic meters. With the drinking water of the Genkeltalsperre most households in the area can be supplied. It was built in 1950-53.

The whole path leads from lookout to viewpoint. The view over the autumnal dam with numerous ducks and some swans on it is just beautiful.

A nice quiet dam to relax! The paths are nice and wide, which offers enough space for hikers and cyclists. Apparently, it is not so busy on nice days on the weekend ... maybe many orient themselves to the larger neighboring dam, the Aggertalsperre.

If you want to hike a nice big round (about 10km), here is the right dam! Small natural history for children (or for inexperienced) is also available. Open your eyes, you see a lot of animals! :)

In dry weather except hiking boots, no special equipment is required for this hike. However, you should take food, as there is no stop on the way.
