The church of St. Peter was originally Romanesque, which is evidenced by Romanesque windows and a doorway from the same period. In 1143 the church was first mentioned in a document. At that time Wandersleben is called the ecclesiastical administrative headquarters of the deanery, which also belonged to the parishes Ermstedt, Kleinrettbach and Mühlberg.
