North-northeast joins, just a kilometer away, his little brother Kleiner Finsterberg or Finsterberger Kopf (875 m). Two 2 to 3 kilometers away, less spectacular eastern side peaks (728 m) and (673 m) both bear the name Rosenkopf. In the west, northwest, and north, the Finsterberg is bounded by the Freibach and in the southeast by the Taubach, both source streams of the Ilm.
