The Modenhübel offers at a height of 485 meters above sea level a very good view of some buildings of the "castle" Vogelsang and parts of the surrounding national park Eifel. The National Socialists built the sprawling complex between 1934 and 1941 as a training center for junior managers of the National Socialist Party.
The complex of buildings located high above the Urftsee, though unfinished, reflects in its monumental propaganda architecture the megalomania of the National Socialist ruling ideology.
After the war Vogelsang was after a short British use center of the same training area of the Belgian army. She used the facility as a barracks and built some new buildings on the site. Since the withdrawal of the Belgian armed forces in 2005 Vogelsang serves the civilian use houses among other things an information center to the history of the place and the surrounding national park Eifel.
