Knebelsberger met the singer Anna Hellmrich in Lübeck and married her on July 31, 1849 at her Bohemian birthplace Preßnitz. Although the couple bought a property in Christophhammer near Preßnitz and got ten children, they seldom stayed at home. After Knebelsberger had already worked as a member of various singing companies, he founded in 1849 own vocal ensemble, the "Zillertal". He made extensive tours of many European countries, where his wife often accompanied him.
Leopold Knebelsberger died during a concert tour in 1869 in Riga.
Although little is known about the whereabouts of his musical legacy, his scope is estimated at about 300 folk songs and instrumental pieces.
His daughter Marie Knebelsberger became a virtuoso zither player and belonged to a Pressnitzer ladies' band, whose wide concert tours they u. a. led to Egypt. In 1874 she marries the press clock maker Auer. Marie Knebelsberger-Auer also composed. Source: Wikipedia
