The Neckarbrücke is a railway bridge over the Neckar between Ladenburg and Neckarhausen. It is a stone arch bridge spanning the river with seven arches. Today it carries the double-track electrified main line from Frankfurt am Main to Mannheim and Heidelberg. The railway from Frankfurt to Heidelberg began its operation in 1846, without the two largest engineering structures of the line, the (old) Main-Neckar bridge over the Main in Frankfurt and the Neckar bridge at Ladenburg were completed. Provisions were made in both places until the two stone bridges were built in 1848. From 14. 06.1846 the trains ran on both sides to the bridge, the passengers had to cross the provisional bridge still on foot. From 27.07.1846 the trains ran continuously between Frankfurt and Heidelberg, but the cars were pushed onto the bridge and picked up from the other side by a second locomotive. Locomotives were not allowed to drive on the bridge yet. That was only possible from 9.10.1846. On 24.08.1848 then the stone bridge could be put into operation. In the suppression of the Baden Revolution in 1849, the Neckar bridge in Ladenburg was fiercely contested. In 1945 the bridge was blown up. In 1946 it was makeshift, 1948 finally restored in the old form.

The double-track bridge has a parallel combined walking and cycling path parallel to the track. This allows an easy and fast crossing of the Neckar to both cities .. 🚴♂️
