The Hohenburg (French Château du Hohenbourg) is the ruin of a rock castle in northern Alsace (France) near the border with Germany. It rises at 551 m altitude on the Schlossberg.
From Schönau a hike to the five castles is signposted. Here you cross the green border between Germany and France

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Wegelnburg and the ruins of Löwenstein, it is worth taking a look at the still recognizable details of the masonry on the Hohenbourg. Many of the ornaments that were installed in the 16th century in the style of the Ranaissance can still be seen.

The Hohenbourg lives up to its name.
With 551 vertical meters, it allows great views of the surrounding area.
A tip from a friend: A full moon night in clear weather on the Hohenbourg you never forget!

Above the castle ruins Fleckenstein on the 550m high Schlossberg. Built at the beginning of the 13th century by the Puller family, later changing owners. Destroyed in 1680. Worth seeing: castle remains and sculpture fragments from the 13th and 16th centuries. (Source: Tourisme Alsace)

Surprisingly well-preserved castle, which marks the second part of the local castle series. Again, the view is very good. On the tower, there is a circular "shield" on which all the surrounding castles are located. Nice detour for every way.

Grandiose view over the Vosges and the Wasgau. You think you are a bird. And you should enjoy the silence and sounds of nature up there.
