The Lower Gate formed the entrance through the former city wall from the west. The tower is a substitute for the towerless Jesuit church, which is directly adjacent.See also de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unteres_Tor_%28Mindelheim%29

Former city gate which was probably first mentioned in 1263. The approximately 40-meter-high tower had the surname Schnäbelintor in the 13th to 14th century after the then mayor Ulrich Schnäbelin.

    Another geographic feature:
Unlike in the foothills of the Alps, the LOWER gate is not in the north (down to the Danube) and the OBERE Tor is not in the south towards the mountains.
Here you can remember it for lack of clear slope so:
The LOWER gate is right next to the Mindel, which like usual in the water likes to flow down or down.
