The more than seven-kilometer-long wooden giant in the Eng near Payerbach was once one of the largest wood-processing plants in the Schneeberg region. Until the 1950s, the coveted raw material was brought down to the valley, then the "rule" of the forest roads and trucks began. The Forestry Department of the City of Vienna reconstructed part of the wooden transport channel, which was assembled without a single nail. And now the forestry office has the monument - because this is undoubtedly - repaired again, for which it deserves praise.
It is difficult today to imagine how laborious once the work of the woodcutters was. There was a lot of activity in the Eng, and there was even a small tavern at the confluence of the Promiska trench - which the Federal Office had for some reason renamed Mitterberggraben. Meanwhile, it has become quiet in the gorgeous Eng, except for the renovated piece are of the old giant only remains to see, but some evoke memory.
