Nice medium tour! about 10 - 20% climb up, but it's worth it!

The hut itself can be seen shortly before. Until then you have to be quite patient ....

Very beautiful ascent from the WTD to the new Traunsteiner hut. For the ascent you should plan for 3-4 h. Important good shoes and hiking poles. On the track are about 600-700 steps of wood or stone. So you have something on the other day of the tour. When you arrive at the top, it is about 30 minutes to the hut.

From Unken or Reith (Austria) you climb in 3 hours (9.7km) through woods and meadows up to the Reiter Alm which you pass until you reach the new Traunsteiner Hütte at the north-east end. Here you can live! From the balcony has by day and night a wonderful view over the pasture and the summit located behind the riders Alpe. If you are smart, book yourself for 2 days, because the real high-light is the hike over the summit of the Reiter Alpe: Edelweisslahnerkopf, Weitschartenkopf, Häuselhorn, Wagendrischelhorn or Stadelhorn. The hike takes about 6-7h. Since most visitors only go up for a day, you have a fair chance to have the mountain panorama to yourself.

Back to life: The Traunsteiner Hütte has double rooms, four-bed rooms and a dormitory. The food is organic and very good.
