The Krinnenspitze was first mentioned in 1774 by Peter Anich in Atlas Tyrolensis as Rinnen Spitz. In the Schmitt map of Southwest Germany from 1797 a Krinnenspitz is recorded. The name comes from the Alpe Krinnen on the north side, which is occupied for the year 1769. It takes its name from the gully, which runs down from the alpine area to Haldensee. "Krinne" in the meaning of notch, incision or gutter is an Old High German word, evidenced as krinna. This is borrowed from the Romansh crēnna.
