The Trettachtal between Himmelschrofenzug and Kegelkopf is the eastern of the two large valleys south of Oberstdorf (the western is the Stillachtal). The approximately 12 km long, multi-faceted and scenically idyllic section always leads along the wild river of the Trettach. The small, picturesque settlements in Dietersberg and Mumme can be reached from Oberstdorf in about 1.5 hours. From here you can also make a detour through the Höllbachtobel up to the historic mountain village Gerstruben. The last few meters of the valley hike from Gottenried to Spielmannsau lead through dense forest at the foot of the Kegelkopf. In Spielmannsau, a fantastic panorama opens onto the wild rock formations of the Trettachspitze and the Kratzer. With the ascent to the Kemptner Hütte, the Alpine stage of the European long-distance hiking trail E5 starts here.
