The Große Rettenstein is a 2366 m high, multi-summit mountain in the Kitzbüheler Alpen. Although not the highest (this is the Kreuzjoch at 2558 m), the Große Rettenstein is the most striking summit in the Kitzbüheler Alpen, which are mostly gentle grass mountains. (Source: Wikipedia)
Beautiful round trip over the pike nails with beautiful climbing on the rugged summit structure. Warning: the summit is often underestimated and is extremely dangerous in snow. There have been a number of crashes here. Absolute sure-footedness is a prerequisite.
The Großer Rettenstein is the dominant peak of the Spertental and always catches the eye from many other mountains. Due to its location, it is an excellent vantage point. It is worth getting up early, as you can then be alone at the summit and comfortably start the descent in the stinging midday sun.
