A hard but rewarding piece of work is the pass road past the highest mountain in Austria for cyclists. It leads through several vegetation zones - from the mountain meadow to the eternal ice. The classic route leads from Bruck (755 m) in the north to Heiligenblut (1301 m) or Winklern (965 m) in the south. In between you can reach the 2504 m altitude with a great view of the Alps. From here it is only and the collected altitude will be converted directly into speed and joy.

The best way to start this tour is at 7 o'clock in Ferleiten, so you have the first 1000 meters in the cool shade and almost car-free. The giant flanks of the wiesbachhorn group on the opposite side of the valley are already shining in the bright sunshine and warm the heart! The driveway ends ideally at the Edelweiss hut at 2571m with a (Radler) - beer, a (kaspressknödel-) soup and an overwhelming
    360-degree panorama.
If you can not get enough, you can go further: to the high gate or even to Franz Joseph's height. From my own experience, I warn but before the return trip: the sun then bangs exactly on the steep slopes, and the car traffic has just reached its peak!

If you want to see the Grossglockner, then you have to turn on the glacier road and drive to the Kaiser-Franz-Josef Höhe.

The ascent on the Grossglockner (with road bike and luggage) was the biggest challenge of my tours, together with those of the Stilfserjoch and the Col Agnel

The Glockner is always a challenge. If the weather permits, I recommend the driveway on 30.04. As normally the road only on 01.05. is released for traffic. It is quite fresh up there but there are hardly any vehicles on the way. Who wants to use the pass as a stopover, but should know that the valley with holy blood to Lienz has no season and almost every hotel is closed.

The road is steep. Beautiful to ride, though! Great views all the way up and iconic landmarks on top of the climb.

A nice day tour would be via the GG high alpine road, down to Heiligenblut, via Winklern to Obervellach, after collecting a few meters in altitude to Mallnitz up to the Tau lock, by train through the mountain and then via Bad Gastein, Taxenbach back to the starting point in Bruck. I can only recommend a scenic tour.
