A small Swiss town with 350 inhabitants, beautiful and well maintained. This is where the Umbrail Pass and the Ofen Pass come together! At 1400 meters! Several places to stop ... maybe late in the evening in the "smallest bar in the world" :-)

Santa Maria Val Müstair (Romansh toponym; in German Santa Maria im Münstertal, official together with the Romansh diction until 1995, obsolete; in Italian "Santa Maria Val Monastero", obsolete [no source]) is a fraction of 346 inhabitants in the Swiss municipality Val Müstair, in the Lower Engiadina / Val Müstair region (Canton of Grisons), of which it is the capital.
Santa Maria Val Müstair is located in Val Monastero, on the right side of the Ram river, geographically belonging to the hydrological basin of the Adige river; it is 73 km from Merano and 125 km from Chur. The highest point of the municipality is the top of Piz Umbrail (3 033 m), which marks the border with Müstair and Valdidentro. The Giogo di Santa Maria ("Umbrailpass") (2 501 m) is located on the border with Valdidentro and Bormio
