In the north of Slovenia lies Lake Bled. It is one of the most beautiful and warm lakes in the Alps. The lake is a well-known island, the only island in Slovenia at all.
Well-maintained circuit around the lake about 1 1/2 hours.
You can make a detour to the castle Blejski grad, about 150 meters above the lake including worth seeing drawbridge. In the Bled castle is a small museum and a restaurant. This can also be achieved by public transport.
The approximately 2.1 km long and up to 1.4 km wide lake has a total area of 1.45 km ² and a maximum depth of 30 meters. Its highest temperature (in July and August) is around 25 ° C.
The lake is the small island Blejski Otok with a well-known St. Mary's Church and significant excavations from the early and high Middle Ages. It is the only island of Slovenia. The crossing to the island is usually offered in a traditional wooden boat, the Pletna (not only terminologically similar to the Plates used in the Salzkammergut).
On a towering cliff rises the castle of Bled (Blejski grad) above the lake. Another important sight is the castle Grimschitz (Graščina Grimšče). In the tradition of the rulers of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the President of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, used a lakeside mansion as a summer residence
