The Monastery of Panagia Kosmosoteira (Our Lady, Savior of the World) includes a fortress wall (with towers and a gate) and a Catholicon (main church) in the style of the cross-in-square church with two columns and five domes. The iconographic decoration is a magnificent example of the high quality painting of the Constantinople School, dated to the 12th century. In the wall of the southeast corner is a clay ornament depicting an eagle. The narthex was torn down, unknown when. The central apse was later repaired, and later the four outer pilasters as well. The monastery was founded in 1152 by Isaakios Komnenos, the third son of Alexios I Isaacios, and was buried there. Two hundred years later, the Catholikon was converted into the Mosque of Suleyman, and five and a half centuries later it was converted back into a Christian church.Source: according to
