California's Lost Coast is a remote stretch of coastline in southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino counties. The 60+ mile coastline includes sandy and rocky beaches to the north and mountains plunging into the ocean to the south. Rugged mountains border the entire coast.
The hike goes from the Mouth of the Mattole in the King Range National Conservation Area south to Usal Campground in the Sinkyone Wilderness State Park.
This first of five sections is about 9 miles, from Mattole to Randall Creek, about halfway to Shelter cove along the beach. Each section takes about one day:
    1: Mattole to Randall Creek
2: Randall Creek to Horse Mtn Creek
3: Horse Mtn Creek-Shelter Cove-Jones Beach (Sinkyone Wilderness State Park)
4: Sinkyone Wilderness SP -Anderson Gulch
5: Anderson Gulch to Usal (Southern End)
    6: Shuttle back to Mattole
