A beautiful place on the Assmanshäusser Höllenberg with great views of the Middle Rhine Valley. If you drive or hike past the arbor, you will come to a narrow path (Rheinsteig) after a few hundred meters. I doubt whether this path is also suitable for cyclists. At least it gets tight when the weather is nice when there are numerous hikers on the Rheinsteig.

After a nice serpetine-like ascent with a great view, we reach the Assmannshausen red wine arbor, which was originally made as a film set. Now it serves as an atmospheric lookout and resting point in the middle of the vineyards. Rheinsteig and the Rheingauer Rieslingpfad also lead along here.

Start Geisenheim (on the Rhine, boathouse/wine tasting stand) bank cycle path downstream on the right to Assmannshausen. Drive up the serpentines in the last underpass in the direction of the red wine chapel. At the red wine chapel, a great view towards Bingen AND get a good bottle of regional wine with an EC card from the cold store and chat with hikers.
