    The colossal statue of Saint Christopher by Giovanni Griglio (1331-32), the protector of wayfarers, is a good seven meters high and composed of six sandstone blocks: a bold and extremely elegant figure of the mighty saint, holding the Infant Jesus in his hand, fearlessly crossing the foaming waters teeming with marine creatures.

    Before entering the sacred building, one should admire the Romanesque portal (late 12th - early 13th century), reused by Master John during the restoration at the end of the 13th century. The lunette depicts the Last Judgment. Christ, seated on a throne amidst symbols of the Passion, is addressed by the Virgin and John the Baptist, who implore mercy for the souls awaiting their final judgment in the tombs. The beautiful relief still bears traces of the old paint that once lent a vibrant touch to all the sculptures on the façade.

    Beneath the large rose window and flanked by the smaller rose windows is the original Gallery of the Three Kings, which depicts in two scenes the arrival of the procession of the Magi with their gifts for the Child Jesus, supported by his mother and protected by Joseph, and the sleeping Magi, to whom an angel appears in a dream and warns them not to return to Herod.
