Located near Santiago do Cacém, the origins of Miróbriga's occupation date back to the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age, remaining inhabited until the 4th century AD.
This settlement is situated on a rise equipped with defensive structures, making it a privileged area of visibility, which allowed territorial control of the entire region rich in agricultural, maritime, and mining resources.
During the Roman period, Miróbriga developed and expanded, becoming home to a forum, thermal baths, and an inn. Excavation of this archaeological site began in 1801, at the initiative of Friar Manuel do Cenáculo, and it currently has a visitor and interpretation center.
