The 32 m high monument to the victims of the First World War was inaugurated in 1928 and is one of the largest monuments in France. It is incorporated directly into the Colline du Château. The urn, housed in a vaulted niche, contains 3665 names of the dead of Nice during the First World War. The monument consists of two high reliefs by the sculptor Alfred Janniot: the left thematizes war and the right one peace. The five steps below the monument symbolize the five war years.

Built under the Cradle of Nizza in 1928, this building was erected in the former quarries of the Schlossberg to honor the 4,000 citizens of Nice who lost their lives during the First World War (1914-1918) and to pay tribute to their memory and calm.
