Stauferstele are octagonal memorial stones that commemorate the Staufers, who were Roman-German kings and emperors in the High Middle Ages. The sculptor of these monuments is Markus Wolf from Stuttgart-Plieningen.
The first Stauferstele was inaugurated on December 13, 2000, the 750th anniversary of the death of the last Staufer emperor, Frederick II, in the ruins of Castel Fiorentino in Italy. Steles followed in Germany, France, Austria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. Between 2002 and 2018, the inscriptions on the steles were designed by the Staufer Friends Committee.
