The view from the directly adjacent canal path offers a great view of a wetland with fascinating development of nature and is a spectacle that is not particularly often encountered here in the Ruhr area.

Directly from the dike of the Rhine-Herne Canal, you get a wonderful insight into the extensive mountain subsidence and nature reserve. Numerous species of birds and even a colony of gray herons can be observed on extensive water bodies. The biotope is a relatively natural and structurally rich area with dead wood for animal and plant species within the agglomeration. Due to their location directly on the Rhine-Herne Canal, parts of the biotope are relatively undisturbed.
The 73 hectare wetland, where kingfisher and cormorant breed, is a rare wetland habitat in the area.
