Benedyktyni opuścili Sochaczew w drugiej połowy XIII w. na mocy przywileju księcia mazowieckiego Bolesława, zaś w miejscu kościoła Świętej Trójcy erygowano kościół farny pw. św. Wawrzyńca, diakona i męczennika. Kościół został konsekrowany w 1257 r. przez biskupa płockiego Andrzeja Ciołka. Wcześniej jednak, w 1244 r. książę mazowiecki Ziemowit I sprowadził
do Sochaczewa zakon kaznodziejski (dominikanów) i ufundował klasztor i kościół pw. św. Mikołaja biskupa. Kościół ten stanął nad brzegiem Bzury, przepływającej przez miasto. Kościół parafialny, zbudowany z drewna, stał na skarpie aż do XVII w.
