W miejscu tym, w połowie XIV wieku Augustianie postawili kościół i klasztor. W 1524 roku opuścili Reszel. W 1580 roku, po zawaleniu się, został odbudowany. W XVII wieku gospodarzami kościoła byli Jezuici, którzy prowadzili tutaj szkołę ( kolegium reszelskie ). W 1798 roku kościół rozebrano ( zaczął pękać ) i w latach 1799-1800 postawiono kolejny, który stoi do dziś. W 1963 roku kościół przekazano grekokatolikom.
