The customs tower in Traben-Trarbach is a historic ruin from the 14th century that was once used to control shipping on the Moselle. Built under Count Johann III of Sponheim, it was an important customs station for collecting taxes. Due to its strategic location, it offered an excellent view of the river traffic.
Today, the customs tower is a popular hiking and viewing point with an impressive view over the Moselle valley. It is also the namesake of a well-known vineyard that stands for high-quality Riesling. The visit is worthwhile for both history buffs and nature lovers.

Ruin of the customs castle Starkenburg. Is privately owned and is being renovated by volunteers. The rather violent way to the ruin is currently secured with steel ropes and fences.
