- beautifully situated village of Dhermi. Although Albania is not (yet) in the EU, the EU has supported it with funding. The majority of the population are Greek. Most of the whitewashed or light stone houses have been renovated and have a beautiful view of the sea. The Church of St. Mary sits at the top. From here you have a fantastic view of the coastal landscape. What a picturesque picture.

Unfortunately, most of the houses are empty, only the outer walls and roofs have been renovated with subsidies. They look nice from the outside, which is intended to encourage tourism. Inside, there are often no partition walls, bathrooms, etc. The Albanian government is probably also hoping that the owners of the houses or their children will return from abroad at some point. Many now work and live in nearby Greece.
