The villa was built for Fritz Thyssen in 1910-12 and is modeled on an English manor house. When Thyssen and his family fled Germany to Switzerland in 1939, a training center for educators was set up here. After the Second World War, the building served as a British boarding school. From 1973 the property belonged to the Grillo family. After a fire in 1993, an investment company took over the property and built the "Villa Park Uhlenhorst" in a largely original appearance.
The Thyssen country house is part of the Industrial Culture Route.
