The chapel was built in 1946 under the impetus of Pol De Colage as a token of gratitude and to further protect the district against flooding. The architect Leon Van Hove from Hamme designed the plan and Gustaaf Van Haute from Moerzeke carried out the works. The works were started on 15 May 1946 and on 23 June 1946 the chapel was consecrated.
