The first known references to this church are mentioned in the will of King Alfonso III. In the early years it was known as San Martín de Cellio. The current building consists of one nave with a groin vault and stone ribs. It has two chapels on each side and a spacious choir with a simple cross vault. In 1787 a square tower was added, topped with an octagonal dome and an iron ball and cross. The main altar of this church, which was built at the end of the 18th century in a transitional style between Baroque and Classicism, is dedicated to the patron saint of the church: San Martín. On the north-west side is a small bifora window, carved into a block of stone and dated between the 9th and 11th centuries, during the development of Asturian art. It is worth noting that the site may be on top of an earlier temple, possibly from Roman times, as confirmed by the discovery of an interesting altar in the interior, probably dedicated to the Mithraic cult.
