The landscape to the north of the city has changed considerably over the past centuries due to the different uses. The field names "Walkmöllerholz" and "Walkmöllerfeld" for the area that borders the Elbe-Lübeck Canal between Voßbergs and Bundesstraße 207 are reminiscent of the Möllner fulling mill, which stood at the outflow of the Knakendiek until 1834. At that time, large parts of the Pirschbach valley were covered by large ponds that are now silted up. The water was dammed up and used to operate the mill.
